Facebook Page Marketing Secret…How to Get More Likes And Why You’re Doing it Wrong.

Everyday I look at my Facebook account and see posts from small businesses, and some larger ones, advertising their services and getting no response.  They must be wondering why some business pages have thousands of dedicated followers who react to posts, and why their posts just pass by, without anything happening at all.  The truth is, they are missing the point…

Yes, it’s fine to advertise your service or product on a Facebook selling group page, that is exactly what the pages are for, advertising.  They are not for marketing your business, and that is the difference. You need to ask yourself if you want to advertise your business on social media, or market it?  I guess that many people feel marketing and advertising are the same thing, they are not…

From my personal perspective advertising is just a subset of marketing.  It involves getting your service or product in front of a potential customer and influencing them towards buying your offer.  Marketing goes much deeper…

Marketing involves research, targeting, planning, proactive engagement.  If you were making a cake, sales would be the look, feel, and taste, while marketing would be the ingredients, the way it is mixed, the baking process, and the cup of tea that is served to the customer with the cake.  So, now we have an idea of how marketing is different to sales, we can now look at why you’re not getting any return on your Facebook posts…

Facebook is a SOCIAL application, that people use for entertainment (most of the time.)  It is not where we head to when intentionally looking to buy a product. So, why advertise your service or product there?  OK, you might be lucky and someone might see your advert and need your product at that very moment, but let’s be factual, they are not using social media as a tool for buying research.  They are using it for entertainment purposes. OK, I have waffled long enough, I’m now going to tell you what you need to do for more Facebook likes and how to market your business on Facebook…

First, FORGET about trying to sell your product or service to people on Facebook.

Second, start posting something that people will be interested in.  This should be relevant to your business, but should not be product information, business information, or sales related.

Third, post regularly and keep at it. (perseverance is the key to success)

Prioritise building your business page followers.  Once you have built up a following then, and only then should you consider any form of sales post.
